Authorities are asking the public's help in identifying and locating a gunman who robbed First Chatham Bank this afternoon.
FBI agents are investigating the 1:45 p.m. robbery of the Hodgson Memorial Drive branch. A Savannah-Chatham police canine and his handler tracked the robber to a parking lot on Montgomery Crossroads where he apparently entered an automobile, police said.
The suspect is described as a slender, light or medium-complexioned black male in his early 30s, about 5-feet 5-inches or 5-feet 6-inches tall. Police said he was wearing a baggy gray hoodie and white garden gloves with a blue bandana across his face with dark sunglasses and a red or auburn flip wig.
According to police, he walked up to the teller, produce a handgun and ordered that money be placed in a navy blue canvass bag before leaving the bank.
Anyone with information on the identity or location of the suspect is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
