HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Temperatures may be relatively warm in the Lowcountry this Christmas season, but that doesn't mean there aren't chances to go ice skating outside.
An outdoor ice skating rink is opening on Saturday at Harbour Town on Hilton Head Island. Organizers say the rink is possible because of synthetic ice, which doesn't require any refrigeration.
The rink is open every day through Dec. 31 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. That includes Christmas Day and New Year's Eve, and ticket prices include skate rentals.
It's all part of the Sea Pines Resort's annual holiday celebration, "Harbour Town Lights." The festival includes light displays, concerts, an outdoor movie and shopping discounts.
There will also be opportunities to donate canned food and toys.
