Council meeting is at 10 a.m. Thursday
A business group wanting to bring double-decker tour buses to downtown Savannah has asked City Council to delay a vote until Jan. 10.
Council was scheduled to vote on changing its ordinance to allow the open-air, two-deck vehicles at today's meeting, which begins at 10 a.m.
In a letter to the city Friday, Julie Wade, attorney for Steve Caplan and Tom O'Connor said given concerns raised by downtown residents, the group now sought to have the city's Tourism Advisory Committee review the proposal.
Council does not have to return to the issue by Jan. 10
Among the concerns: potential damage to the tree canopy, the ability of upper-tier passengers to peer into upstairs windows of residences and the additional street and sidewalk congestion of allowing 75-passenger tour buses downtown.
Council also will consider new locations for horse carriage stands that move all but one carriage out of City Market. Council also will vote on new policy and guidelines recommended by the Historic Site and Monument Commission for approving public murals.
