Savannah's jobless rate declined to 7.7 percent in November, down two-tenths of a percentage point from 7.9 percent in October and 8.4 percent a year ago, according to data released Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor.
But how does Savannah's growth stack up to other similarly-sized cities in the region? Almost exactly the same.
The chart above displays unemployment rates for Georgia metro areas beginning in 2008, just before the onslaught of the national economic recession, and continuing through November 2012. While Savannah fared slightly better than most Georgia metro areas in the first months of the recession, it has since reflected very similar unemployment trends as other cities in the region.
November's preliminary unemployment data for metro Savannah returns the area to a jobless rate of 7.7 percent, the lowest it's been since April 2009.
