Our partners at thecoastalsource.com report that a Savannah-Chatham police officer traveling in a cruiser struck a tree located in the area of 37th and Reynolds Streets early Monday morning, local dispatchers told them.
Dispatchers also said the officer was trapped in his patrol car until rescue workers could free him. The accident happened about 4:15 a.m. and at 6:45 a.m. investigators were still on scene.
The officer whose identity has not yet been released was taken to Memorial University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
