A 3-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound was taken to Memorial University Medical Center on Sunday afternoon.
At about 12:45 p.m., said Savannah-Chatham police spokesman Julian Miller, the child picked up his father's gun at a Montgomery Landing apartment, and the gun fired.
The child was taken to the hospital with what police at the time believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m., detectives were heading to the apartments off West 57th Street to investigate the incident.
Police did not release any further information early Sunday afternoon.
