A Savannah man today was sentenced to 30 years in prison – with 20 to serve- for his conviction on child molestation charges on a 9-year-old girl.
Shawn O’Rourke, 40, must serve the remainder of his term on probation, Chatham County Superior Court Judge Timothy R. Walmsley ruled.
During his sentence, O’Rourke is banned from Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, Bulloch and Liberty counties in addition to a number of other special conditions. He must also register as a sex offender.
O’Rourke was convicted by a jury Dec. 14 of molesting the victim on June 25, 2010, and a separate count of molesting the victim between Dec. 1, 2009, and June 25, 2010.
The same jury acquitted O’Rourke on an aggravated child molestation charge.
He has remained in the Chatham County jail since his arrest on Aug. 11, 2010.
