A Savannah man is in custody following a seizure of multiple marijuana plants by the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team.
Gregory Paul Sucher, 56, was arrested Tuesday without incident and charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana more than one ounce, possession of a controlled substance (steroids) and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Earlier this month undercover CNT Agents received information about marijuana being grown at a residence in the 2200 block of Bonaventure Road, CNT reported. Agents began investigating the residence and identified Sucher as their primary suspect. Also identified was a second residence located in the 2300 block of East 38th Street.
Tuesday afternoon, CNT Agents conducted a search of both residences.
A search of the Bonaventure Road location resulted in the discovery of an active grow with 30 marijuana plants varying in size and maturity, equipped with elaborate lighting, temperature gauges and items commonly used for the distribution of marijuana, CNT said. Additionally, agents found several ounces of marijuana, a small amount of steroids and one handgun at the residence on East 38th Street.
CNT said that though Sucher is not a convicted felon and it is believed he legally purchased the firearm, it is a crime to have a firearm present during the commission of a crime.
Marijuana plants can produce up to one pound of marijuana. Marijuana is then usually broken down to smaller quantities, typically ounces, according to CNT. The average street value for an ounce of marijuana is between $100 and $150. Tuesday’s seizure could have a street value of up to $30,000.
Sucher is being held at the Chatham County jail.
