Students at Shuman Elementary School were treated Friday to the Massie Heritage Center's "History On Wheels" program to learn about life in the 19th century.
History on Wheels is a newly launched program that allows schools to take students on a historical field trip without leaving school grounds.
On Friday, fourth-graders learned about gold panning, played Victorian schoolyard games, ground corn and danced to 19th century music, among other activities.
"When kids can see it, touch it, feel it, put it on, take it away...they're going to be excited about what they did, and go home and tell their families about what they did," said Candy Lowe of Massie.
