A 26-year-old man was taken into custody after he and his 2-year-old daughter were shot during a domestic dispute this morning in a west Savannah apartment.
Dominique Ford of Garden City was treated at Memorial University Medical Center along with De’Kiiyah Roper after West Chatham Precinct Officers found him walking away from the scene with the child. Neither wound was life-threatening.
Savannah-Chatham police were called to the Westlake Apartments about 11:45 a.m. to reports of a shooting of a man and a child. They found that Ford had climbed out of a window with the child and was walking through a wooded area with the child. He was charged with aggravated assault
Violent Crimes detectives determine Ford had entered the residence to retrieve the gun and a struggle ensued between him and Dennaysha Roper, 21, the child’s mother and resident of the apartment. She was able to get the gun away from him and fired once, striking him, but he then picked up the child before she fired again.
Criminal Investigations Division detectives continue to investigate.
