Eat It and Like It: Where to watch the Super Bowl in Savannah

I’m not a Super Bowl party guy.

Wait. Forget what I just said. I didn’t just say that.

I am not allowed to say that. You are not allowed to say that.

You may or may not know this, but the term “Super Bowl” is owned by the National Football League. Their brand. Their game. Their hype.

It’s why when you see a flyer for Best Buy selling TVs, they want you to get a brand new one for the “big game,” not the soup spoon bowling alley parties.

We go places on SB Sunday to watch a popular game, eat and drink and watch the NFL’s final game of the year. We all have our favorite places to watch a big game. I am not telling you mine. Great food and no one around, haha.

But I will offer a tiny guide to where you can watch the Super (what you eat your Cheerios from) in and around Savannah:

B&D Burgers

If you haven’t seen their courtyard yet, B&D Burgers’ new location on Congress Street (at Ellis Square) was created with games like the Superman Bowl-a-thon in mind. A ginormous screen up against the wall of the building next door. There are plenty of speakers for those of you who actually like to hear the game, and a great outdoor atmosphere. There will be giveaways, bucket specials and a huge event. The night of the SEC Championship in December sounded like you were at the stadium. It was hoppin’. bdburgers.net

Dub’s Pub

Dub’s Pub on River Street. Another great spot for a game the size of a 90,000-spectator soup bowl. Dub’s is just a few months old and the nicest sports bar on the river. A couple dozen TVs and great food. They are rolling out a new menu for their very own bowl party. Don’t know if there is soup on it or in it. liveoakstore.com/dubspub

The 5 Spot

The 5 Spot. The new kid on the block in Habersham Village is a good spot for the game. I am told they will have $5 apps, bowls of chili (which are super) and other specials. Great atmosphere for a little more laid-back game watching. 5spotsavannah.com

Molly MacPherson’s

Molly MacPherson’s serves haggis once a year. Don’t know what haggis is? Fasten your seat belt and give it a Google. Molly’s serves theirs once a year at Haggis Bowl time. Their customers say once is enough. But last year they ran out. Always wanted to try some traditional haggis while you watch the Superintendent Bowling? Molly’s is your spot. Full portions downtown on Congress. Appetizer sizes in Richmond Hill. Just please, no food porn. macphersonspub.com

Beef O’Brady’s

Good times at Beef O’Brady’s as well. Always reminds me of my father-in-law calling my wife a couple years ago very excited that “they opened a new steakhouse” in his tiny town in Florida. Nice spot to watch the game. But if you live on the island, you already knew that. beefobradys.com

Tybee Island Social Club

Out on the beach, it’s hard to overlook the Tybee Island Social Club. Great food, great atmosphere and always a good time. Did someone say smoked vodka bacon bloody mary? tybeeislandsocialclub.com

Mellow Mushroom

Last but certainly not least, I’ve given them a shout out before, but this is as good a time as any: Mellow Mushroom in Pooler. Love their pizza, but I am told (haven’t tried it yet) by someone whose opinion I trust when it comes to cocktails and brews that they have a very nice and creative bar there. Something maybe a little different from bucket specials and foam fingers while you are watching the game. Just don’t call it the Super Bowl. You never know who is listening. mellowmushroom.com
