Police on Monday night released few details about a death investigation in the Talahi Island area, but the wife of the deceased and a juvenile were both charged with concealing the death.
Judith Ann Phelps and the juvenile were being held after Savannah-Chatham police entered a residence at 130 Nilsson Drive on Sunday evening after failing to get a response from occupants, said metro police spokesman Julian Miller.
Islands Precinct officers were reacting to a call from a family member who reported seeing the body of Thomas Phelps in the garage, Miller said. Once the death was confirmed, he said, police obtained a search warrant to enter and processed the scene throughout the night.
Violent crimes detectives are continuing to investigate Phelps’ death and the circumstances surrounding it. Midafternoon Monday, an unmarked police car, a large crime scene unit vehicle and a forensics SUV were parked in front of the one-story home. An Islands Precinct patrol officer kept watch in his car outside the property as the investigation ensued inside the residence.
Yellow crime scene tape surrounded the property and fell atop a white Mitsubishi sports car parked in the driveway.
Judith Phelps was in the Chatham County jail, and neither the name nor age of the juvenile had been released at press time. No details about how Thomas Phelps died had been released.
