GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say they are questioning the son of a 78-year-old woman whose body was found in a trash bin behind her Cherokee County home.
Coroner Dennis Fowler said an autopsy Monday determined Marjorie Knuckles was strangled and had several other injuries indicating she was beaten before she was killed.
Investigators say Knuckles' family said she was missing Saturday, but her body was not found until Sunday, when someone took some garbage to the trash bin. Knuckles lived with her 95-year-old homebound mother.
Police have charged Knuckles' 44-year-old son Brandon Knuckles with possession of a stolen vehicle. He remains in the Cherokee County jail. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
