An Augusta man accused of cutting a house mate who complained about his stinky feet was acquitted Wednesday.
Judge J. David Roper granted a directed verdict for Crawford Jackson, 62, who was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime after an argument with a Cedar Street house mate on June 11 turned physical.
Darryl Harris testified during the Richmond County Superior Court bench trial that Jackson poked him in the stomach several times with the blunt end of a pocket knife, breaking the skin, and that Jakcson cut his hand.
The judge found that the knife was not used as a deadly weapon by Jackson against Harris.
Wednesday’s acquittal was the second not-guilty verdict for Jackson. In May 2009 a jury acquitted him of murder in the Aug. 9, 2008, death of Phillip Wallis Scott, 51. Scott died two days after Jackson stabbed him in the stomach at Scott’s Heckle Street home. Jackson claimed self defense.
