The Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Statesboro office declined to investigate allegations that Savannah-Chatham police are failing to report crimes because it's not a crime.
"If in fact that's what they're doing, that's an internal affairs issue...that's an administrative problem, that's basically somebody not doing their job," said Catherine Sapp, special agent in charge of the Statesboro office. "That's not a crime. I couldn't take that case."
Sapp notified metro police on Wednesday and suggested they contact the Savannah office of the FBI.
Acting City Manager Stephanie Cutter notified City Council members this afternoon of the GBI's decision.
Alderman Tony Thomas in January publicly questioned whether the department's 2012 overall crime figures were based on numbers that were manipulated because officers were failing to file reports on some crimes.
Cutter asked council members to forward any complaints they received from citizens. They received 11 complaints.
