Delta issued an apology Tuesday night after one of its planes veered off a runway at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport after it landed there earlier in the evening.
“Delta apologizes for the inconvenience this has caused,” the airline's statement said.
There were no injuries reported among the 125 passengers or crew members aboard the DC-9 aircraft arriving from Atlanta about 6:45 p.m.
The plane's front wheel made the initial contact with the grass as the plane turned onto the taxiway at the end of runway No. 1, eventually the entire plane ended up in the grass.
Everyone aboard was able to safely exit the plane and was transported to the airport terminal, said Lori Lynah, airport spokeswoman.
Airport operations were unaffected by the plane that as of late Tuesday remained stuck in the grass, Lynah said. It was expected to be towed from the area by late Tuesday night.
