Unitarians welcome new minister

Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah members on Saturday celebrated the installation of their new minister, David Messner, in the church at 311 E. Harris St. on Troup Square.

Mayor Edna Jackson, the Rev. Billy Hester, minister of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, and Rabbi Robert Haas from Congregation Mickve Israel were among the local dignitaries on the program.

Messner was ordained by First Unitarian Church of Rochester, N.Y., where he served as a ministerial intern and consulting assistant minister. He earned his master’s degree in divinity from the University of Chicago with particular emphasis on theology and religious ethics. His education also includes a master’s degree in public and private management from Yale University with concentrations in strategy and organization and an undergraduate degree in psychology from Reed College.
