A 20-year-old man was shot to death at an eastside party early Sunday morning, police said.
As many as 100 people were at the party in the 2100 block of Florida Avenue when Marray Martin was shot at about 1 a.m., said Savannah-Chatham police spokesman Julian Miller.
Martin, of a Davidson Avenue address, was pronounced dead at Memorial University Medical Center.
After the shots fired call came in at 1:06 a.m., Islands Precinct patrol officers responded to the house, where they found people screaming and fleeing the party, Miller said. First responders struggled to make it through the crowd to get to a room where they found Martin, Miller said.
Investigators worked though the night questioning attendees. The investigation was ongoing late Sunday, and police had not yet released any descriptions of a suspect or any other information related to the shooting.
Martin’s death is the third homicide being investigated by metro police this year.
Savannah State University student Rebecca Foley, 21, was shot to death in her car Jan. 21 at Colonial Village at Marsh Cove Apartments off White Bluff Road. The next night, 17-year-old Evan Colquitt died after being shot multiple times on the 400 block of Sharondale Road in Windsor Forest.
No information about suspects in those homicides has been released by police yet, either.
Some attendees at the party left before police could talk to them, Miller said, and anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
A confidential tip line directly to investigators can be called at 912-525-3124. Callers preferring to speak to detectives without reward potential can arrange private discussions, Miller said.
