Coastal Savannah Writing Project announces spring workshops
9 a.m. March 9. Armstrong campus, University Hall room 125, 11935 Abercorn St. CSWP will host a workshop in Opinion Argument Writing and the Common Core State Standards on March 9. This interactive workshop, for K-12 teachers of all content areas, will focus on the steps and strategies for teaching opinion and argument writing to help students meet Common Core State Standard No. 1 in writing in all disciplines and grade levels. Participants will view, discuss and participate in a variety of oral, written, collaborative and individual activities to introduce writers to the tasks of forming opinions and claims and supporting them with evidence. The event will also include writing workshop lessons that will improve argument writings. The cost is $25. Muscles for Mammos

YFA 25th Anniversary Gala
6 p.m. March 9. Savannah Marriott Riverfront. The public is invited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Chatham-Savannah Youth Futures Authority during a gala event March 9. Keynote speaker will be Doug Nelson, former president and CEO of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The 25th Anniversary Gala will be a black-tie affair, beginning with a 6 p.m. reception, followed at 7 p.m. by dinner and dancing. Tickets are $55 each or $100 per couple. Tara Feis Irish Celebration

Cub Scout Mega-Derby Day
9 a.m.-3 p.m. March 9. Eckburg Center, Savannah Christian Preparatory School. Cub Scout Mega-Derby Day is from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. March 9 in the Eckburg Center. This is a council-wide event. It will include exhibits from the fire department, monster trucks, a car show, games and concessions.
Claxton Rattlesnake and Wildlife Festival
March 9-10. Claxton-Evans Industrial Park at 501 Cedar Ave., Hagan. Festival gates open at 8 a.m. March 9, and at 10 a.m. March 10. Tickets are available at the gate and admission is $6 per person 6 years and older. Children 5 and younger are admitted free. Parking at the festival is free. More than 150 arts and crafts booths, food vendors, snake handling demonstrations, live entertainment, rock climbing wall, a zip line and much more will be on site both days. The Rattlesnake and Wildlife Festival parade will begin at 10 a.m. March 9 in downtown Claxton. More than 200 units will be participating.
