The gunman in a 2011 armed robbery at a Yamacraw Village apartment on Tuesday was convicted on charges of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Chatham County Superior Court Judge Michael Karpf sentenced Daqwan Young, 21, to life in prison with the possibility of parole plus a fire-year probationary term on for the firearms violation.
Evidence presented by Assistant District Attorney Jerry Rothschild showed Young, armed with a sawed-off shotgun, beat and robbed Xavier McIver of Statesboro on April 8, 2011, taking the victim’s Spike Lee Limited Edition shoes, pants and a Pirates baseball cap.
Co-defendant Quayshaun Floyd, 21, on Monday pleaded guilty to the same charges just before jury selection was scheduled for his case. Karpf sentenced him to 15 years in prison with 11 to serve and a total of nine years on probation.
