A Garden City man is in stable condition following a shooting Monday night.
Garden City police said the 26-year-old shooting victim was taken to Memorial University Medical Center after the incident occurred at about 10:38 p.m.
On Tuesday, Capt. Gil Ballard, head of criminal investigations, said the victim was out of surgery and in stable condition.
The shooting happened at the Plantation Townhouses off Highway 21, according to police.
The victim told police that he answered banging on the door from a man who asked him for a cigarette lighter. The victim said the man managed to push his way inside the home and shot him once in the chest. He said the man then fled from the scene.
Ballard said investigators have not identified a suspect.
