A former employee at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia has been indicted on charges he sexually molested patients.

Bernard Edwards, 56, of the 2800 block of Hephzibah, Ga. should be arraigned next month in Richmond County Superior Court on charges of aggravated sexual battery, sexual battery against a hospital patient and simple battery.

According to the indictment returned Monday, Edwards is accused of sexually assaulting a girl Nov. 14, and another patient between Jan. 15 and Jan. 31, 2010. A third incident allegedly occurred Jan. 28, 2012, when Edwards is accused of inappropriately hugging and touching a boy.

According to a statement released by Georgia Regents University, Edwards was a mental health technician. He was fired Jan. 8 for gross misconduct, said spokeswoman Christen Carter.

Because this is a pending criminal matter, no further comment concerning the case will be issued at this time, according to the hospital statement.

Edwards was arrested Jan. 8 and charged with one count of child molestation. He was released on bond Jan. 11.

During an investigation of the most recent complaint, officers found that other complaints had been made against Edwards, District Attorney Ashley Wright said in an e-mail.

A grand jury arrest warrant has been issued for the additional charges against him. The case is assigned to Judge J. David Roper.
