The Games
The GACA All-Star Basketball Showcase featuring four games between the top boys and girls players in Georgia tips off today at Armstrong Atlantic State University. The action gets started with the girls junior game set to begin at 1 p.m., with the girls senior game following at 3 p.m.
The boys games start at 5 p.m., with the South Junior squad squaring off with the North. The nightcap between the North and South Seniors is set for 7 p.m.
Girls Stars
Savannah and the surrounding area are well represented in the event with eight players participating. Tianna Germain, the spark plug point guard from South Effingham, will play for the South in the junior game. The senior girls game will be stacked with local players on the South squad with stars like Calvary Day’s Alexus Parker, Windsor Forest’s Ty Reynolds and Beach’s Ollie Steadman participating.
Boys Stars
In the junior boys game, fans will get a chance to see Effingham County’s Jakeenan Gant, who was named the Class AAAAA State Player of the Year by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday. The 6-foot-8 forward and the South team has another local big man with big-time credentials in Savannah High’s Chris Cokley, a 6-7 forward.
The senior boys matchup also has some local flavor with Savannah High’s Jovante Spivey and Savannah Country Day’s Gary McGinty suiting up for the South. They will play alongside Jarquez Smith, who has signed with Florida State. The North Senior squad includes Texas A&M signee Devante Fitzgerald of Tucker.
