Voter registration rides
The Savannah branch NAACP is offering rides to the Chatham County Voter Registration Office to obtain authorized identification for the November elections. The rides and the ID’s are free. No documents are needed to acquire an ID. Call 912-233-4161 to schedule a ride.
Gray’s Reef Markers Dedication
2:30 p.m. Sept. 22. Rousakis Plaza, East River Street. On Saturday, Sept. 22, officials from NOAA’s Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary and the City of Savannah will dedicate six bronze markers commemorating the sanctuary, its marine life and natural history, and its connection to the city and the state of Georgia. The public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony.
Armstrong celebrates Latino Heritage Week
7 p.m. Sept. 22. Student Union Ogeechee Theatre. In the Dominican Republic, a tropical island-nation, tourists flock to pristine beaches, unaware that a few miles away thousands of dispossessed Haitians toil under armed guard on plantations, harvesting sugarcane, much of which ends up in U.S. kitchens. This film raises key questions about where the products we consume originate and at what human cost they are produced.
Kids fishing and water safety event
8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Sept. 22. Tybee Pier. In partnership with Georgia’s free fishing day the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Safe Kids are organizing a Kids Fishing and Coastal Water Safety event Sept. 22. Entry is limited to the first 144 applicants and pre-registration is required. Completed forms can be picked up and returned to the Chatham County Aquatic Center no later than Sept. 20. 100 Black Men kick-off orientation meeting

Our signature programs of economic development, education, health & wellness, leadership development, and mentoring, serve Savannah’s youth and empower them to become self-sufficient in the economic and social fabric of their communities. Auditions for “The Hollow”
10 a.m.-12 p.m. Sept. 22. Wilmington Island United Methodist Church, 195 Wilmington Island Road. Upcoming auditions for “The Hollow”, by Agatha Christie, will be held Sept. 21, from 7-9 p.m. and Sept. 22, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Wilmington Island United Methodist Church. Six men between the ages of 25 and 75 and six women also between the ages of 25 and 75 are needed for the cast. The actual production dates are Nov. 8-10. Trike-A-Thon
10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 22. Jump N’ Jacks, 109 Interchange Drive, Richmond Hill. There will be a Trike-A-Thon Sept. 22 at Jump N’ Jacks Family Fun Center in Richmond Hill. All donations will benefit the JDRF. The event will also feature face painting, food and giveaways. All participants will receive a medal for participation.
Wheelchair cleaning event
10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Sept. 22. Executive Court office complex, 5105 Paulsen St. LIFE, Inc. is holding its annual wheelchair cleaning event from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Executive Court office complex. Entertainment, snacks, free blood pressure checks and information will also be provided during the event. Teleride will provide free transportation to individuals who are registered with them. Annual Brain Power Golf Tournament
8 a.m. Sept. 22. Crosswinds Golf Club, 232 James Blackburn Drive. The Pilot Club of Club of Chatham County is having their Annual Brain Power Golf Tournament on Sept. 22 at CrossWinds Golf Club. Proceeds from this golf tournament will go to benefit all Brain related Projects in our community. The cost is $75 per player or $300 per 4 member team (individual players will be paired up). YMCA’s 23rd Annual Heart of Savannah 5K
Sept. 22. Forsyth Park. The YMCA of Coastal Georgia will host the 23rd Annual Heart of Savannah 5K/1 Mile Walk and Kiddie Run Saturday, Sept. 22 at Forsyth Park. After the race a YMCA style party will be held with activities like Zumba in the park, health screenings, inflatables for the kids and so much more! The Kiddie Run is free and open to all registered children.
5K and 1 Mile Walk are $30 through Sept. 18; $35 Sept. 22 to race day. YMCA members will enjoy a discounted $25 rate until Sept. 18. You must sign up at your local branch to receive this discount. Deadline for 2013 Rebuilding Together Savannah
Homeowners who live in their homes and cannot afford to make repairs may be eligible for assistance from Rebuilding Together Savannah and may apply for work to be done in the spring of 2013.
