Calvary Day beat Treutlen 27-18 in their game Friday night.
Derek Kirkland's 1-yard scoring run in the third quarter helped the Cavs pull away after they took a 14-12 lead at the half.
The Cavaliers took advantage of a muffed punt recovered by Thomas Lewis on the Viking 14-yard line early in the first quarter. Three plays later Thomas Heyward took the ball from the 4-yard line, but lost the handle at the 1, but Cavalier tight end Milan Richard was there to cover it in the end zone for a touchdown.
Treutlen answered on the ensuing kickoff when Drew Gillis took the ball on the right side of the field and cut back across the grain to find open space down the left sideline for a 97-yard kickoff return.
Calvary scored late in the first quarter on a 7-play, 63-yard drive. Jake Clemens completed three passes for 31 yards and capped the drive with an 11-yard scoring run as Calvary took a 14-6 lead.
Treutlen scored on the last play of the half when quarterback Matthew Powell found Gillis in the end zone for a four-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion pass fell incomplete and the Cavs lead 14-6.
Treutlen running back Keon King was hurt after taking a late hit on the Viking sideline. King hurt himself colliding with a metal bench. He left the stadium in an ambulance. But he was responsive and moving his legs as paramedics loaded him into the back of the ambulance.
