A Thunderbolt man was arrested Monday after allegedly arranging to meet up with a 12-year-old girl for the purposes of having sex, police said.
Investigators with the Savannah-Chatham police department’s Special Victims Unit arrested Jesse Brian Sikes, 23, in a parking lot on Victory Drive where he had attempted to meet with the girl, said Julian Miller, police spokesman. Sikes, of a Robertson Avenue address, was charged with obscene Internet contact with a child, Miller said.
Metro police had been working with a family member of the child since Sikes contacted her on Facebook, identifying himself as a 16-year-old boy, Miller said. Sikes sent obscene messages and attempted to set up a meeting, Miller said.
When Sikes arrived at the meeting spot, SVU detectives, Tactical Reaction and Prevention investigators and a K-9 officer were waiting for him. He was arrested without incident, Miller said.
Detectives are continuing the investigation.
