ATLANTA – Competitive amateur brewers are awaiting the governor’s signature on House Bill 99 which would double how much they can legally produce.
The sponsor, Rep. Jason Spencer, R-Woodbine, said Thursday that it would allow home brewers to have enough to take to multiple competitions at the craft-brewing festivals that are popping up across the state.
“Many individuals who have expanded and developed the growing craft-brew industry in Georgia got their start as home brewers. Increasing yearly home-brewing limits and removing barriers to home-brew competitions will foster more growth in the field and lead to more business for brewing supply shops,” said Spencer, who admits to not being a beer connoisseur.
However, he did say the bill represents a larger issue.
“This bill is probably the most pro-liberty, pro-freedom bill we have passed this session, and it will have a very positive economic impact in the state,” he said.
