ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities say so many people filled Centennial Olympic Park for a series of free concerts Sunday that police had to shut the gates before headliner Dave Matthews Band took the stage.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that at least 40,000 people had filled the downtown park by 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
Georgia Tech student Matt Bales was among fans who were not allowed in. He tells WSB Radio that a lot of people were jumping the fences, but he could see the stage so he was happy with watching the concert from outside the park.
The concerts were held in conjunction with the NCAA Final Four basketball championship, which is being hosted in Atlanta. Louisville faces Michigan in the championship game Monday night.
