ATLANTA — Forecasters say damaging winds will be the main threat as storms move into Georgia on Thursday, but some tornadoes will also be possible.

The National Weather Service said a few tornadoes and large hail could accompany the storms. In a hazardous weather outlook, the weather service outlined the timing of the storm system's estimated arrival.

Forecasters project that a squall line of storms will enter northwest Georgia by late Thursday afternoon or early evening and metro Atlanta by mid-evening. The storms will then roll across central Georgia during the late evening and early morning hours on Friday.

Authorities say rainfall amounts could be heavy, especially across parts of the north and central Georgia, where widespread areas of up to 2 inches of rain are expected.
