Two men are in the hospital after an altercation escalated into a shooting Wednesday afternoon.

Just after 1 p.m., police were dispatched to 39th and East Broad streets after receiving reports of a shooting.

Albert Jones, 28, was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots as Darvin Morris, 28, was seen fleeing the area in a four-door sedan, according to police spokeswoman Gena Bilbo.

There had been an argument and physical altercation between the two men just minutes before,  Bilbo said.

A look-out was placed on the vehicle Morris was known to be driving, and Port Wentworth police found and arrested him after a short pursuit.  A firearm was recovered at the arrest scene.

Morris was injured in an accident after running from police in Port Wentworth. Both men were transported to local hospitals. Morris is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

He also is facing numerous traffic charges out of Port Wentworth.
