A Savannah man who allegedly shot a 30-year-old business owner in broad daylight Tuesday afternoon on Savannah’s southside was arraigned Wednesday in Chatham County Court.
Emmanuel Perez, 31, will remain in custody until a May 9 preliminary hearing. He could not be granted bond immediately, as bond decisions for major crimes such as homicide can only be decided by the Superior Court.
Chatham County Recorders Court Judge Harris Odell, Jr. presided over Wednesday's arraignment.

Within minutes of the shooting, Miller said, 31-year-old Emanuel Perez, of a Gannan Avenue address, turned himself in to installation police at nearby Hunter Army Airfield.
Perez allegedly shot business owner Armondo Montes, 30, several times at the corner of White Bluff Road and Hampstead Avenu after a confrontation stemming from a personal dispute between the two individuals, police spokesman Julian Miller said.
Hunter Army Airfield spokesman Steve Hart said Perez was an Army sergeant stationed at Hunter. Perez was turned over to Savannah-Chatham police who charged him with murder and transported him to the Chatham County jail where he remained Tuesday night.
Montes was Savannah’s ninth homicide victim in 2013. Savannah-Chatham police have made arrests in five of the cases including Montes’ death.
