Metro Savannah unemployment rate drops to 7.4 percent

The Georgia Department of Labor says the unemployment rate for metro Savannah was 7.4 percent in March, down from 7.7 percent in February. 

That's way down from 8.3 percent in March 2012

The number of jobs in metro Savannah increased to 158,000, up by 500 from 157,500 in February. The biggest job gains were in leisure and hospitality and professional and business services, according to the Georgia Department of Labor. 

Meanwhile, Georgia's unemployment rate for March was 8.4 percent, two tenths of a percentage point down from 8.6 percent in February. The rate was at 9.1 percent in March a year ago.

The local area unemployment data are not seasonally adjusted.
