ATHENS, Ga. — A bicycle race that draws comparisons to NASCAR because of the crashes is set for this weekend in Athens.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports that the Twilight Criterium will make its 34th run through downtown Athens on Saturday.
Five-time Twilight Criterium veteran Jordan Heimer says many of the fans show up to see the competitors pile up in crashes.
Three-time women's veteran Morgan Patton says she loves the event because of the atmosphere and the energy coming from the crowds.
The women's race will start at 7:45 p.m. with the men's race beginning at 8:45 p.m.
