The debut of Savannah's Gene Sauers in his hometown professional golf tournament couldn't have gone too much better as he and teammate Kenny Perry finished tied for second Sunday at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf.
Sauers and Perry shot rounds of 66-66-62 to finish at 22 under par, one stroke behind the winning team of Brad Faxon and Jeff Sluman at The Club at Savannah Harbor.
Sauers and Perry's 10-under 62 was the low round of the day. Sauers turned 50 last August to become eligible for the Champions Tour for golfers 50 and older.
Faxon and Sluman shot 62-66-65 for 23-under 193, edging Sauers/Perry and Fred Funk and Mike Goodes.
Sluman's former playing partner Craig Stadler and Legends rookie Kirk Triplett had a chance to tie Faxon and Sluman but bogeyed No. 18 and tied for fourth at 21 under.
