Telfair Museums is offering a special fundraising opportunity to the Savannah community as it prepares for the upcoming exhibition “Offering of the Angels: Paintings and Tapestries from the Uffizi Gallery,” opening Dec. 7.

Individuals and businesses are invited to support Telfair Museums in bringing this exciting exhibition to Savannah by “adopting” a painting from the Uffizi Gallery of Florence, Italy, for the duration of the exhibition. The 45 works in the exhibition may be adopted on a first-come, first-served basis for $1,000 apiece. When you adopt a painting, a label with your name and any other designation you would like will be displayed beside the artwork.

Works in the exhibition — which have never left Europe prior to this tour — embody the diversity, stylistic evolution, scale and technical mastery of art from Italy and Northern Europe over nearly 400 years. Uffizi gallery was built in 1581, and began as repository for the art collection of the powerful Medici family. It has been open to the public since 1765 and remains one of the most culturally-significant museums in the world. The exhibition contains works by Botticelli, Parmigianino, Titian, Tintoretto, Lorenzo Monaco and Alessandro Allori.

Telfair Museums is the exhibition’s final stop on a four-venue American tour.

The museum will host a private reception and viewing of the show Dec. 10 to thank and honor “adoptive families.” For more info, call 912-790-8844.
