Deputies ask for help finding second suspect

Effingham County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Garden City man for armed robbery last night and are asking for the public’s help in finding a second suspect.

They’re searching for a black male in his early 20s who was wearing a white tank top, blue jeans and no shoes and who goes by the street name of “Zulu.”

Witnesses said the man was picked up at about noon today, by a white female driving a silver car on Hodgeville Road.

The events started at about 6:30 last night when a Guyton man said he was robbed by two men on Hester Road.

The victim followed the suspects until deputies were able to join the chase. The vehicle crashed into a pond on Herbert Kessler Road and the two occupants fled on foot.

Caught right away was Leon Clemmons Jr., 19, of Garden City. He was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to Chief Investigator Don White.

The second man escaped.

Deputies were tipped that the second man was seen on Hodgeville Road at about noon today. Despite a search with help from Garden City K9s and the Savannah-Chatham Metro Air Unit, the man has not been found.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office at 912-754-3449.
