The Learning Center’s Annual Book Sale
May 2-4. Senior Citizens, Inc., 3025 Bull St. Shop hundreds of books in history, biography, cooking, quality fiction and other genres. Free summer camps

Battle Blood Cancer fundraising campaign

Wet Willie’s will host a month-long Battle Blood Cancer fundraising campaign now through May 26, including Battle Blood Cancer Parties May 3-5. Proceeds will benefit the Savannah office of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Georgia Chapter. LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to battling blood cancer. Lecture: ‘Sitting in Savannah’
6 p.m. May 2. Telfair Academy. The Telfair Academy will host a weekend of free workshops May 2-4. The series begins with a lecture by Tania Sammons, senior curator of decorative arts and historic sites, who will discuss chairs and sofas from the museum’s permanent collection.
Wilmington Island Farmers Market meeting
7-8 p.m. May 2. Frank G. Murray Community Center, 160 Whitemarsh Island Way. The Wilmington Island Farmers Market will host a general information meeting May 2 at the Frank G. Murray Community Center. Discussion will include the market’s progress, its goals and visions and the floor will be open to any questions.
‘She Kills Monsters’
May 2-5. Mondanaro Theater, 217 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Savannah College of Art and Design’s performing arts department will open its spring season May 2, with the comedy “She Kills Monsters,” by Qui Nguyen. Directed by Martin Noyes, the play runs May 2-5 at Mondanaro Theater. In “She Kills Monsters,” boring Agnes’s life is turned upside-down by the loss of her family in a car accident. Bereft, she stumbles upon her late sister’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, embarking on an action-packed quest to save her sister’s soul. Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. May 2-4 and 3 p.m. May 5. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 with senior, student or military ID. The May 2 performance is free to those with a valid SCAD ID. Seating is limited. Tea in the Garden at the Davenport House
4:30 p.m. May 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17; 5 p.m. May 24, 30, 31. Davenport House Museum, 324 E. State St. Learn about tea traditions and experience an early 19th-century tea in Davenport House’s beautiful courtyard garden. Patrons will visit areas of the home where tea service took place and participate in an afternoon tea with costumed interpreters in the garden. Celebrity Sports Weekend
May 2-4. Bethesda Academy campus, 9520 Ferguson Ave. Bethesda Academy, an award-winning school for boys in grades six-12, will host its annual Celebrity Sports Weekend at Bethesda Academy campus May 2-4. Celebrity athletes on hand for the weekend include featured guest speaker Matt Stinchcomb, Dexter Carter, David Greene, Johnny Rembert, Jeff Treadway, Rick Wilkins, Dusty Zeigler and many more. In addition, special military guests will also be included in the weekend festivities. Former University of Georgia and NFL football star Matt Stinchcomb will kick off the celebrity weekend events by serving as the featured guest speaker at the The Game of Life — Celebrity Sports Weekend Kick-Off Dinne” on May 2, with cocktails beginning at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Savannah. Charity Wine Tasting
5:30-7:30 p.m. May 2. Savannah Wine Cellar, Twelve Oaks Shopping Center, 5500 Abercorn St. All proceeds benefit the mission of Rebuilding Together Savannah. We bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners. Registration open for 2013 Youth Summit
The city of Savannah and Chatham County will host the 2013 Youth Summit from 5–9 p.m. May 13 at the Savannah Civic Center. Local youth between the ages of 11-20 and their parents are invited to attend. A free dinner will be provided to participants, but pre-registration is required. Savannah Preservation Festival launch party
6-9 p.m. May 2. Ships of the Sea Museum North Garden, 41 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Historic Savannah Foundation will kick off the festival with a spring garden soiree featuring live music by local favorites, The Accomplices. Returning this year is the exclusive art auction curated by CAS Fine Arts. Also, be the first to view the Pennies for Preservation poster contest. Mingle with members of the International Council on Monuments and Sites who selected Savannah as the location for the organization’s 2013 International Symposium, which is co-hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design.
