Army ROTC Commissioning and Recognition Ceremony
4 p.m. May 3. Armstrong Student Union Ogeechee Theatre, 11935 Abercorn St. Armstrong’s Army ROTC Spring Commissioning and Recognition Ceremony will honor Armstrong ROTC graduate Paul Midi. Savannah State ROTC graduates will also be commissioned, and SCAD ROTC graduates will be recognized at the ceremony. The guest speaker for the Spring commissioning will be Sherry Gellatly Harris.
Evan Nelms Memorial/Celebration of Life Event
6 p.m. May 3. JF Gregory Park, Richmond Hill. The Memorial/Celebration of Life Event for Evan Nelms who passed away after a year long heroic battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia will be held May 3. This event will be open to the public. We will be celebrating Evan’s short 5 years with a very short Christian service and moment of silence. Sand Gants tickets to benefit Veterans
Local 40/8, Post 567; a non profit Veterans organization. We are selling Sand Gnats tickets for the game on Wednesday, June 5, 2013. The Savannah Sand Gnats will be playing against the Lexington Legends. Tickets are $ 8 a seat. This Game will be played at 7:05 p.m. Proceeds will go to raising funds for the organization. Seafood Fest on River Street
May 3-5. River Street. Savannah Riverfront is excited to bring back Seafood Fest after a five year hiatus! Shrimp, crawfish, oysters, crab, and more will be featured at this year’s event. Weekend festivities will take place May 3-5. Festival hours are 12-11 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sunday. Select local restaurants, including our friends on River Street at Wet Willie’s, Joe’s Crab Shack, and Shrimp Factory, will be serving Savannah style seafood at their booths all weekend long.
Workshop for high school students
3:30-5:30 p.m. May 3. Telfair Academy. Students will visit the Art of Seating exhibition and High Chairs installation with Atlanta artist Jessica Scott-Felder and then create mixed-media works with applied gold leaf based on the forms in the exhibition. Works will be exhibited in the Jepson Center’s Morrison Community Gallery after the workshop. The workshop is free but registration is required. For more information, call 912-790-8823.
‘Harmony Cabaret Performance’

Lawfest 2013: ‘Walking in the Footsteps of Westley Wallace Law’

‘She Kills Monsters’
May 3-5. Mondanaro Theater, 217 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Savannah College of Art and Design’s performing arts department will open its spring season May 2, with the comedy “She Kills Monsters,” by Qui Nguyen. Directed by Martin Noyes, the play runs May 2-5 at Mondanaro Theater. In “She Kills Monsters,” boring Agnes’s life is turned upside-down by the loss of her family in a car accident. Bereft, she stumbles upon her late sister’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, embarking on an action-packed quest to save her sister’s soul. Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. May 2-4 and 3 p.m. May 5. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 with senior, student or military ID. The May 2 performance is free to those with a valid SCAD ID. Seating is limited. Tea in the Garden at the Davenport House

State St. Learn about tea traditions and experience an early 19th-century tea in Davenport House’s beautiful courtyard garden. Patrons will visit areas of the home where tea service took place and participate in an afternoon tea with costumed interpreters in the garden.
