Y Kids Run Celebration Day
8:30 a.m. May 11. Daffin Park. The free event begins at 8:30 a.m. and will kick off with a 1 Mile Fun Run. At 9 a.m. K – 3rd grade will start followed by 4th grade and up at 9:30 a.m. Upon completion of the run each participant will receive a Y Kids award. Following awards will be family activities including; Zumba, inflatables, face painting, healthy snacks, and much more! Pet Care and Adoption Fair
11 a.m.-3 p.m. May 11. Lamara Street, adjacent to Habersham Village Shopping Center. The third Annual Pet Care and Adoption Fair will be held May 11. Services available will include Low-Cost Pet Vaccinations provided by Chatham County Animal Control, Low-Cost Pet Micro-chipping provided by Humane Society for Greater Savannah, Dog Washing and much more. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will benefit Jacob G. Smith Elementary School and the participating local pet rescue agencies.

Islands High School Band Car Show
9 a.m. May 11. Islands High School, 170 Whitemarsh Island Road. The Islands High School Band will hold a car show fundraiser May 11. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the Jazz Band will perform at 11 a.m. All proceeds benefit the Islands High School Band. Everyone is invited to attend.

Human Trafficking Workshop
10 a.m. May 11. Canaan Community United Methodist Church, 2401 Elgin St. The United Methodist Women of Canaan Community Church will host a free Human Trafficking Workshop on Saturday, May 11. The workshop will focus on how to identify, prevent and provide assistance to victims of human trafficking. Workshop is free, but pre-registration is required. Sports Fashion Show and Lipstick Auction
6 p.m. May 11. Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, 41 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. The Rotary Club of Savannah East invites you to join us for our fabulous fourth annual literacy fundraiser. Ticket prices include wine, beer and a variety of tasty food and desserts! The fun begins with a sports fashion show and the always enjoyable runway style lipstick auction. This one-of-a-kind evening provides guests with an opportunity to see models imaginatively dressed as sports figures and the opportunity to bid on amazing lipsticks. Tickets are $25 at the door. Girls on the Run 5K Celebration Run
7 a.m. May 11. Savannah State University. The Happiest Run Around Town! Men, women, kids, and jogging strollers are welcome! Come join us at the SSU Wright Stadium for a great race, raffles, kid zone, food, games, and much more. Packet pick up starts at 7 a.m. The cost is $25 in advance and $35 on race day. Mini-Comics Expo
1-4 p.m. May 11. Norris Hall, 546 East Broughton St. The SCAD sequential art department will host the Mini-Comics Expo at Norris Hall. This event celebrates handmade comic books and do-it-yourself publishing, and nearly 40 vendors—students, alumni and professors of SCAD’s acclaimed sequential art department will be present to exhibit and sell their self-published mini-comics and magazines. Savannah Aglow meeting
10 a.m. May 11. Comfort Inn and Suites, 596 Al Henderson Blvd. Liz Floyd, VP of Ministry Development, Southern Area Team of Aglow International will be the featured speaker at this months Savannah Aglow meeting May 11. Containers for Cancer
Through May 12. John Davis Florist, 2430 Abercorn St. The Containers for Cancer program will donate $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for every empty container or vase dropped off at John Davis Florist, 2430 Abercorn St., from now through Mother’s Day on May 12. In addition, for every Mother’s Day flower order received, a $5 donation will be made on behalf of the Containers for Cancer program. ‘Discovering 1820s Savannah: Early Birds Walking Tour of the City Isaiah Knew’
8 a.m. May 11, 18, 25. Davenport House Museum, 324 E. State St. See what survives of the 1820s Savannah that master builder Isaiah Davenport knew. Beginning at the Davenport House Museum, built in 1820, participants will walk by some of the finest examples of preservation in the city and learn about what no longer remains. Topics will include the Great Fire of 1820, the yellow fever epidemic of 1820, Lafayette’s visit to Savannah in 1825 and the celebrations surrounding the 50th anniversary of the United States in 1826. Savannah Scottish Games
9 a.m. May 11. Bethesda Academy Grounds, 9520 Ferguson Ave. The Savannah Scottish Games are the fourth-oldest Scottish games in the Southeastern United States. The games allow the visitor to enjoy the sounds, tastes and visual images that Highlanders experienced as early as 100 A.D. Bring the family and join a grand celebration of Scottish culture with competition, entertainment, shopping, refreshments and activities for all. The Village Library book sale
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 11. The Village Library, 1 Skidaway Village Square. The Village Library will host a book sale May 11. The sale is of gently used hardback/softback fiction, non-fiction, biography, history, sports, children’s, cooking/gardening, audio books, etc. Most books are priced below $4.

Bringin’ It Back Home Barbecue and Cookoff
4-7 p.m. May 11. Gazebo at Royce, 4 Oglethorpe Professional Blvd. Royce Learning Center is hosting its second annual Bringin’ It Back Home Barbecue and Cookoff on May 11. The event features a barbecue contest for amateur teams, cornhole tournament, live music by The Accomplices and City Hotel, line dancing, a $1,000 raffle drawing and kid-friendly activities. Plus, $200 prizes will be awarded for the best chicken barbecue, best beef barbecue and best pork barbecue. Prizes for first place in the cornhole tournament is $600, second place wins $300 and third place wins $100. Bring your lawn chair and appetite and join the fun. General admission tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 12-18 and children younger than 12 get in free. Barbecue team registration fee is $35. Pink Heals Wiffle Ball Benefit
11:30 a.m. May 11. Taylor Park, 1824 Pine Barren Road, Bloomingdale. Big Red Inc. is proud to lead an all-star group of sponsors in playing wiffle ball to raise money for Pink Heals, a program that helps raise money for breast cancer patients as well as children with cancer. Along with the championship game, there will be plenty of other games for the kids, pink fire trucks, a concession stand and lots more. Junior League accepting new member applications
Junior League of Savannah is looking for good women with a heart for volunteerism for the 2013-14 Provisional Class. Extreme Volleyball Professionals Beach Bum Open
9 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 11. 16th Street and The Strand, south of Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion. Tybee Island will proudly host the 2013 Extreme Volleyball Professionals Beach Bum Open, featuring elite professional and amateur beach volleyball players. Special contests and promotions will take place throughout the tournament. The Beach Bum Open will feature top beach volleyball players competing for cash prizes and awards. This event is free and open to spectators.

Boys & Girls Clubs summer program registration
Registration for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Empire Summer Program is now in progress. The Boys & Girls Club summer program is offered at two sites; the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club at 510 E. Charlton St. and the Kayton-Frazier Boys & Girls Club at 801 Brewer St. The programs will run from June 10-Aug. 2 for children in kindergarten up to age 12. Hours of operation for the Frank Callen club are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday; cost is $120 per child and $130 for new members. The Kayton–Frazier unit will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; cost is $2 for current and new members. Lunch and dinner are served daily at both locations. National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger
May 11. Stamp Out Hunger without leaving home! Place a bag of non-perishable food donations beside your mailbox before your letter carrier arrives. Your letter carrier will collect donations for the food bank while delivering the mail. Join staff and volunteers from 5-8 p.m. at America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia to receive and sort the food collected during this amazing drive.
