>> Students win $1K prize for artwork
When the first Whole Foods Market in Savannah opens this summer, it will have something no other store in the chain — at least in the Southeast — has.
A mural on one side of the 35,000-square-foot store will give passersby on Victory Drive a creative view of the relationship between community and organic food. The mural’s design is the work of three Savannah College of Art and Design students.
Matthew Marroquin of Albuquerque, N.M.; Brittany Upton of Cary, N.C.; and Rachel Urban of Elizabethtown, Ky., upperclassmen and friends since freshman year, entered the Whole Foods Design Challenge and won not only their biggest chance to showcase their work, but also $1,000.
The colorful winning design features City Hall and other landmarks surrounded by fresh produce and residents.
