Senior Citizens Inc. will host its 3rd annual Miles for Meals 5K Run/walk on Saturday to benefit the local Meals on Wheels program for seniors in Coastal Georgia.
The run/walk will begin at8 a.m. at Daffin
Park, pass through Police Memorial Trial and end at Grayson Stadium.
The Meals on Wheels program provides more than 1,800 hot meals each day to seniors, many of whom will only get this one daily meal. Included in that number are more than 600 in Chatham County.
Recipients are living at or below the federal poverty level and, for many of those, a midday visit is their only social interaction of the day.
It costs $6 a day to provide the meal and all of the money on Saturday will go directly to that end.
To participate, you may register on line at active.com/running/savannah-ga/miles for meals or at Fleet Feet Sorts, 3405 Waters Ave.
Registration fees are $35 at packet pick up and race day. Packet pickup is Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Fleet Feet Sports.
