The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Chatham, Effingham and Bryan counties until 5 p.m.
At 4:29 p.m., meteorologists detected a severe thunderstorm near Bloomingdale moving northeast at 10 mph.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm could produce quarter-size hail. Frequent lightning is occurring with the thunderstorm.
Some locations in or near the path of the storm include Bloomingdale, Meinhard, Monteith and Pooler.
