Darrell Hendrix today was ordered to remain in jail pending a May 30 preliminary hearing on a murder charge in an April 25 slaying of Rodrick Richardson. Assistant Public Defender Brandon Thomas told Chatham County Recorder’s Court Judge Harris Odell Jr. that Hendrix had rejected a public defender and apparently intends to defend himself.
Odell said only a Superior Court judge can set bond on a murder case.
Richardson, 38, was reportedly on his way to a job at Derst Baking Company but was found shot to death in a Honda that crashed into the fence at Hodge Elementary School.
