CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The two-state board working to build a $5 billion steamship terminal on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River is meeting in Charleston.
The Georgia-South Carolina board working to develop the Jasper Ocean Terminal meets Monday at the South Carolina State Ports Authority. The board plans to hear a marketing update on the terminal. It will also consider a budget for the coming year.
The Jasper terminal is envisioned for a 1,500-acre site in Jasper County, just downstream from where ships call at Georgia's ports.
Although the two states are working on a joint port, their ports in Charleston and Savannah are in fierce competition.
