The cluster of dancers lined up just in front of the stage on River Street’s Rousakis plaza grew as DJ Mickey “the Midnite Rocker” Peterson followed “The Electric Slide” with the more contemporary chart-topper, “Wobble.”

From his make-shift disc jockey stand covered with American flags and tributes to U.S. troops from every branch, Peterson encouraged the hundreds of on-lookers and passers-by to join in the festivities as the 165th Airlift Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard held its 13th annual Armed Forces Festival on Memorial Day weekend.

“We all just want to show our military that we appreciate everything they do and give them a chance to enjoy River Street with their families,” said Pearson Deloach, the festival’s co-chair.

When Peterson wasn’t playing hit songs, the 530th Air Force Band out of Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta was entertaining the crowd.

The festival, which raises money for the Georgia National Guard Family Readiness Foundation and Honor Flight Savannah, continues from noon-6 p.m. today.
