There are several sites in Garden City where the municipality's fire department are cleaning up, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.

Police ask that drivers not drive through any puddles in this area that could contain the acid as it has damaged vehicles.

Chatham Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Kelly Harley said if acid gets on your vehicle to cover contaminated area with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and then rinse off with water to neutralize.

She asks people to report any other areas where spills may have occured.

the unidentified chemical; Miller said it appears it may have damaged several vehicles already. The substance is likely harmful to humans, as well.

Crews are working to cleanup the spills along the route and the leaking truck has been located.
