Relay for Life kickoff celebration
6:30 p.m. Oct. 22. Cafeteria, Benedictine Military School, 6502 Seawright Drive. On Monday, Oct. 22 the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Savannah will officially get underway as event volunteers, survivors, and participants gather in the cafeteria at Benedictine Military School for a kickoff celebration to launch their fundraising efforts for the year. The celebration will feature cancer survivor Kim Hankins. Hankins, a member of the Georgia Power team, was the number one fundraiser at last year’s Relay For Life of Savannah. At the kick-off we will also celebrate the American Cancer Society’s 100th birthday! This will be the first opportunity to register a team for the overnight event to be held on May 3-4, 2013 at Benedictine Military School. Classes at the Coastal GA Center
6:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays through Nov. 12. The Coastal Georgia Center will hold a class on business and professional writing on Mondays through Nov. 12. 3rd Annual Y goes Pink
Oct. 22. Habersham YMCA. Come out to the Habersham YMCA Oct. 22 for the 3rd Annual Y goes Pink hosted by the Habersham and Southside Y’s. This event is in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness month and all proceeds go to the Mary Telfair Pavilion. Join us in your pink attire for an afternoon of Zumba in the parking lot beginning at 4:15 p.m. The St. Jospeh’s/Candler Mammography unit will be on site from 9 a.m.– 4 p.m. providing on-site mammograms. This fun filled event will include various raffle prizes, giveaways, and recognize a breast cancer survivor as she shares her experience with her battle against breast cancer. “Paint the Country Pink”
October. Dressbarn. In support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dressbarn announces a new campaign designed to create awareness through community involvement, inviting everyone to help “Paint the Country Pink.” The www.PaintTheCountryPink.com website will feature a map of the country where visitors can show their support for everyone affected by breast cancer by virtually swiping a pink paintbrush over their location. Skidaway Institute presents program on coastal hazards
7 p.m. Oct. 22. Library Auditorium on the campus of the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography. Skidaway Institute of Oceanography professor Clark Alexander and Georgia Southern University professor Chester Jackson will present a program entitled “Living on the Edge - Coastal Hazards in Georgia” on Monday, Oct. 22, the Library Auditorium on the campus of the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography at the north end of Skidaway Island.
