CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Investigators say a 25-year-old Columbia man has been arrested and charged with smashing a $25,000 antique fountain in a fenced-in courtyard of a downtown Charleston home.
Authorities said George Kirkpatrick turned himself in Thursday and was charged with damage to personal property.
David Skinner owned the home and the 140-year-old fountain. He says surveillance camera footage captured someone shoving it over on June 1 and the fountain breaking into several pieces.
Skinner says his house is close to bars frequented by college students and he thinks the vandalism was just a random, stupid act.
Authorities didn't know if Kirkpatrick had an attorney.
