About two dozen neighborhood leaders showed up at the Savannah Civic Center Wednesday morning to discuss their concerns, at the invitation of Mayor Edna Jackson.
Jackson said she scheduled the informal discussion in order to reconnect with the neighborhoods since her obligations as mayor have prevented her from attending their community meetings as often as she would like.
“I just wanted us to have an open discussion so you can whoop up on me,” Jackson said.
While her fellow council members were not formally invited, Jackson welcomed Aldermen Van Johnson and Mary Ellen Sprague, who were also in attendance, along with District Attorney Meg Heap.
Much of the discussion centered around crime and quality of life issues, while the special purpose local option sales tax was also a common topic.
