A gathering Saturday afternoon in downtown Savannah aims to raise awareness and fight both crime and bullying among the community’s children.
The Combating Crime & Bullying with Kids Event will be held at the intersection of Gwinnett Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. It is being organized by the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office along with the Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire and the Victim-Witness Assistance Program.
The event is open to the entire community and will include free refreshments, face‐painting, a bounce house, games and other fun activities for children, said district attorney’s office spokesman Daniel Baxter. The first 150 children to attend will also receive a special goody‐bag filled with school supplies, treats and safety information.
The event’s primary goal is to educate the city’s children about the importance of remaining in school and the dangers of bullying and associating with the wrong people. Parents will also have the opportunity to speak with representatives from D.A.’s office, juvenile court, the Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire and The Victim‐Witness Assistance Program about issues that affect young people in Savannah.
